The History of Executives Online
Executives Online's history of serving clients in Ireland began in early 2004 with our placement of an Interim Operations Director into a Kentree based manufacturer of robotic vehicles, which features in a case study published on our site. We followed this with two additional placements into Irish companies, supplying a “Business Accelerator” (hands-on sales consultant) into a manufacturing software developer and an Interim General Manager for the UK operations of an Irish shower enclosures manufacturer. These placements were delivered by our UK teams in Winchester and London. Having had some early success with Irish clients who, like so many of our customers, found our web site and made contact, and knowing of the vibrancy of the Irish economy, we determined in 2007 to establish an Executives Online operation in Ireland. Executives Online Ireland began operations in 2008.
Patrick Dwyer, Executives Online Ireland's Managing Director, noticed a gap in the recruitment market between large financial companies with recruitment departments and local high street recruitment agencies as early as 2000. In 2003 he started Irish Search Partners with the aim of filling that gap. With Executives Online Ireland, Patrick aims to build on the success of Irish Search Partners by deploying a unique blend of technology and personal service to generate client enquiries, candidate approaches and to match them together in successful assignments. Patrick has over 20 years' experience in the recruitment sector.
Executives Online in the UK began its involvement with interim management and fast-track executive resourcing in November 1992 when Norrie Johnston created his limited company, Earncatch Projects Ltd., through which he practised as an interim sales and marketing director. Over the years 1993-1999, Norrie himself completed 10 major interim assignments for companies such as IMI, London Electricity, IBM, Westinghouse Electronics, and Tunstall Telecom.
In January 1997 the company name changed to EPL Consulting Ltd. and began operating as an interim management provider, accomplishing its first placement mid-1997 of David Kelly at British Gas Transco. January 1998 saw EPL Consulting's first listing in the Executive Grapevine Directory of Interim Management. In October 1998 the company was featured in its first major article in The Daily Telegraph, quoting Norrie Johnston of EPL Consulting Ltd. In January 2000 the company launched its first website at the domain www.executivesonline.co.uk and the company again changed its name, to Executives Online Ltd.
Building from Norrie’s track record as a successful interim (who sourced work himself and via other leading interim agencies), Executives Online has since that first placement in 1997 placed hundreds of interim managers into diverse and challenging roles with clients ranging from leading blue-chip companies, to SMEs, to public sector organisations, leading charities, and professional associations. Executives Online's client portfolio includes BMW, Age Concern, Carphone Warehouse, Dage Precision Industries, London Ambulance, Moss Pharmacy, Nestlé, Powergen, BuyEnergyOnline, Thresher, Syngenta, Portsmouth Housing Association, and Securicor, to name just a few. The company now boasts a candidate roster exceeding 0 practicing interim managers and other freelance executives. Services have evolved from purely interim management to include other fast-track executive resourcing solutions, including change management, project management, and fast permanent executive recruitment.
Management Buyout
A Management Buy Out which completed December 2008 has produced a change of control in the company, with Norrie reducing his shareholding, and the senior management team – including two UK franchisees – acquiring a majority interest. The deal was backed by RBS/NatWest with additional debt and equity finance from the vendors and the MBO team.
Today, Executives Online continues to experience exceptional growth in both turnover and margin, deploying a unique blend of technology and personal service to support the needs of both clients and candidates and to match them together in successful assignments.
Executives Online is also expanding geographically. In addition to Executives Online Ireland, Executives Online's global presence continues to grow, with operations currently in Australia, South Africa, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and The Netherlands, and further international expansion is planned. Within the UK, there are now several regional offices.
